SideLineTracker: The Idea and Journey
SideLineTracker was conceptualized on a football field during the first scrimmage of the season in 2012. It was extremely difficult to track player substitutions and how much time each player had during a game all while trying to keep focus on other aspects like strategizing. It was apparent that using a clipboard, paper and pencil wasn’t ideal. It also didn’t give us much confidence in the accuracy of the information we were providing parents or coaches.
How could technology help us? Finding a product proved to be a dead end, so we decided to create our own. After some thought of how it may function, a drawing of the application emerged. The drawing took into consideration what coaches and parents were already familiar with, a field and sideline. But we wanted to make it simple so the idea of colored jersey’s for easy identification was born. It would be the “alert system” that helps coaches quickly identify those athletes who need more playing time or those who have too much and can come out of the game. The ideas started flowing and our application started taking shape.
Watching SideLineTracker go from a drawing to a working software was awesome. After spending a great deal of time in the application and running many scenarios we found that there were many things we needed to add that would provide coaches and parents with the ultimate team management / game day tool. After speaking with coaches of various sports we realized they were in the same situation as us. There was no way this should only be developed for one sport and we knew we couldn’t leave them out. For our initial launch we decided on 4 sports.
After months of development, additions and subtractions, SideLineTracker has reached its debut. SideLineTracker is a tool for coaches and parents to provide a better experience for our youth athletes, after all it’s all about them! Our youth join sports to be a part of a team, to have fun, to learn, to build confidence, and so much more. If we can ensure that no kid sits idle on the sideline then we’ve done our job. Our youth carry on their experiences in sports into everything they do, so it's up to coaches and parents to ensure these experiences are positive.
We are extremely happy to provide coaches and parents with this tool. We believe it will make your jobs easier. We look forward to our journey with you and hope that together we will set the standard in youth sports!
Journey starts now.
